Our Orchestras

Middle School Orchestras

Strings Lab- No skills needed! This is a class for beginners.

Prelude Orchestra- Next step up from 6th grade. Proficiency on the D and A strings.

Crescendo Orchestra- Proficient on all four strings. Can read fluently.

Vivace Orchestra- Proficient on all four strings, has some knowledge of shifting and beginning vibrato skills.

Philharmonia- Proficient in 2nd/3rd positions (violin/viola) and 3/4th positions (cello/bass). Developing vibrato skills. 2 octave scales. Full, clear tone production.

Chamber Orchestra- Full clear tone production, proficient shifting up to 5th position. Proficient vibrato. Expected Honor Orchestra (JDO) audition.

High School Orchestras

Strings Lab-No skills needed! This is a class for beginners.

Sinfonietta-No audition necessary, proficiency on all four strings in first position. Music literacy is emphasized along with ensemble skills and vibrato.

Concert Orchestra-Continued focus on ensemble performance, vibrato, and shifting through third position for violin, viola, cello, and fourth position for bass. Two octave scales for all instruments.

Intermezzo Orchestra- Proficiency in first through fourth position for violin, viola, and cello. and fifth position for bass. two octave instruments and selected three octave scales. Vibrato continued.

String Ensemble-An advanced orchestra with a .5 GPA boost. Three octave scales and continued on ensemble skills and musical artistry.

Symphony Orchestra-This is the flagship ensemble of the high school orchestra program. Three octave scales and ensemble skills are required. .5 GPA

Auditions

Students will have a placement audition to determine which orchestra is the best fit for their skill level. They should prepare the scale and excerpt that seems to be the right level for them. Directors will then place them in an ensemble- it may not be the one you audition for!
